First and second part of the Tragedy
The tragedy is comprised of two main parts, which have been preceeded with an introduction of three texts by Goethe.
It starts with the Dedication, an Elegy, in which Goethe gives account of the long and exhausting creation of the play itself and talks to characters in Faust.
Two scenes follow up. In Prologue in the Theatre three aspects of theatre, personified as manager, dramatic poet and actor (as merryman), argue about the objective a play should have.
The Prologue in Heaven leads to the content of Faust itself, by dramatizing his fate with a bet between the Lord and Mephistopheles. Compare to Job's temptation in Old Testament.
